Farewell

Post by At the back as usual »

After nearly 20 years in York my stay has finally come to an end. Having sold my house I am moving to pastures new and looking forward to it immensely.

I would just like to take this opportunity to say Bon Voyage to all that I have met within Clifton CC. I have met some wonderful, charismatic people and great cyclists, young and old, who have helped me in some capacity throughout my time with the club.
First and foremost a big thank you has to go to GPS Kev, who guided me safely round my 1st ever club run (after I was cajoled into joining by H - thanks H) - up the small hill  out of Leavening where I reproduced the banana I had eaten through the village - and continued to guide me until the day he said "get into that Intermediate Group Charlie, you'll be fine" Thanks for that massive vote of confidence Kev.
Also a big thanks to the regulars that do the Intermediate rides, too many to mention but notably - John C, Jon G, Tony G, Darren, Stu, Dan to name a few, thanks guys for putting up with me when I was feeling bad.
Thanks to Phil B who put up with me on the training rides that I managed to get out on before I wrecked my achilles in December, these vastly improved my cycling and fitness overall.
Thanks also to Howard D, if he hadn't had that chat with me I might never have joined one of the best clubs around.
So it is with sadness that I have to say goodbye to you all, I hope that you continue to succeed as a club and keep up the sterling work that you have done so far. My biggest regret is not being able to join you all for one last ride, I know by reading the forum that I have missed some epic rides, most of which I had planned to do this year.
As for me I have joined the Swords CC (Bray Wheeler's are a little bit too far away) so I hope that I can persuade them at some point to come to Yorkshire and that I can guide them round some of the wonderful routes that I have been shown over the last 4 years. If I am in York in the future I will do my best to get a lend of a bike and see you in the square at 10 but I will continue to keep tabs of goings on through the web site.
Au Revoir to all of you
Pete K

Crikey Pete I must have missed something that was a bit sudden. Anyway all the best with the move it was great knowing you all but briefly. Have missed on the Challenge rides this year. Hope you can make a odd visit to York to get out on a ride. :D

Cheers

Good luck Pete with your move, hope everything goes well. It's been great to know you and hope your new cycling club is everything you want it to be.

If you're ever back over this way and need a bike to borrow I'm sure I could dig one out of the stable for you to use.

All the best, Dan... :D

Well Pete, moving on without the chance to have a pint of the black stuff ( I prefer the Dublin production anyway), or having another ride together (but not like that headwind ride back from driffield).
Good look in Swords I remember visiting there on several occasions but only on business.
Bray would have been a better bet for me, as i used to stay at the Dublin Sport Hotel on the edge of the Wicklow hills & do some evening walks.
Best wishes
Bernard
