SPOCO 26th May - NOTES

Post by cath »

Riders notes:
  • This weeks event starts/finishes at Sheriff Hutton crossroads, there is plenty of parking near the start area so please try not to park on the road.

Please be careful when warming up and keep off the roads in the start/finish area - be considerate of other road users. Please be especially courteous and considerate of residents in and around Sheriff Hutton village.

This event takes place on the public highway - all normal rules of the road apply and riders must obey the Highway Code.

Race marshal's are only there to make sure you go the right way - they cannot warn, direct or stop traffic for you - it is up to you to make sure it is safe to proceed and if you have to stop at a junction then stop - don't take risks!

This course is on unclassified country roads - surface conditions in parts are poor with nice big potholes, gravel and sometimes agricultural debris. Newer riders should be aware that this is a technical circuit with sharp bends, steep descents and narrow lanes.

The approach to Bulmer is a fast, steep descent followed by a steep climb.

Terrington Bank is a fast, steep descent. Riders must give way to oncoming traffic on the bridge after the descent.

There are stables in the area - if you find you are approaching horses: make sure they know you are there, slow down and take great care - racehorses are nervy and they're bigger than you!
General:
  • Please make sure your race number is pinned to the centre of your lower back (to the rear pockets on your jersey) so that it can be seen by the Timekeepers!

Clifton CC encourages all riders to wear a helmet - under 18's must wear a helmet.

Got there tonight after offering to help (twice) and being told I was needed only to find out I wasn't.... Most annoying as I had to cancel plans to help! Is there any way of listing agreed helpers or something beforehand? That's happened the last 2 times I've volunteered to help and doesn't exactly make you mindful of offering again...
Rant over
Andy
Ps. This isn't meant to sound like a teddy out of the pram moment just incredibly frustrating! Also I will be offering to help again in future
Cheers

Sorry about that Andy, there was a problem with the thursdaytt@cliftoncc.org e-mail address so some people offered to help and assumed or were told to turn up so we actually had more marshalls on thursday than we needed. In future Heather will e-mail the people that have offered and are required to turn up on the night. Although if you are not riding or doing anything on a Thursday night come out and cheer the riders on, there might even be something for you to do.

Apologies to those who turned out to marshall but were not required, at least you did not get wet and thanks to the people who helped and did get wet.
