Weekend Roundup

Post by Rob »

Once again it was the Sunday Clubrun for me. There were 6 takers in The Square with a few other regulars competing in the "Brass Monkey" Half Marathon - how did you get on?

We tackled the usual clockwise route to Driffield, with a slight finesse to the route early on by going through Crambe and Kirkham. Muzzy headed for home near Sledmere, which left self, Skymoos, Richard, AndyG and ChrisC to press on the Bell Mills at Driffield. This is one of the few cafes which doesn't involve a whacking great hill on departure!

Good January riding conditions - a cold northerly, grey skies and slimy roads - nothing to hamper us really. "Good winter miles" was the mantra that Skymoos repeated every few miles.

Back in York before 3 with a smidge over 80 miles on the clock. Thanks Guys.

Went out with Rob on the sunday run for a change, best ride of the winter so far for me.
A big chunk of the Wolds, a toasted teacake in a cheap as chips cafe, and a boat load of "good winter miles".

Just to add to what has already been said. I managed just short of 75 good winter miles the first half of which was in a nice tight well disciplined group and I was sorely tempted to carry on with them to the cafe. But I had some potholes to check out near Wetwang so took a left after Sledmere and rode a stretch of the Wetwng road race circuit. All the potholes are still where they were last year! Took the long long climb out of Wetwang to Huggate and came back via Millington, Bishop Wilton & Full Sutton. Any thoughts I had on "picking it up" on the way back were just wishfull thinking. Not a particularly vintage performance by yours truly after a heavy week of not so scientific training - my saddlebags was weighing me down a bit on my ride home from work!

Highlight of the weekend for me was the annual dinner. A big thank you to all those who did the planning, organising, running of the evening, attending etc. I think the Marriott was a great venue and their staff very good. It was a really nice evening.

I also went on the Saturday 10:30am ride, with mainly mountain bikers. About 10 of us in total. Cafe stop in Hovingham. Good route and good day out overall.
