Diary Date: An Off-Road Ride for Roadies…

Post by Darren N »

Calling all MTB pretenders, mud ploughers and cow poo burners…it’s time to drag the nobbly-tyred pedalo out of the comfort of the garage and get it down and dirty!

There’s been a load of roadies out there who’ve done a lot of talking about wanting to have a go at the mud stomping…well, here’s your big chance to put your camelback where your mouth is! A few of us are planning a grand day out on MTB’s before Christmas. Here’s the details:

Venue: Dalby Forest Red Route / Bike Park / World Cup Course.

Date: Saturday, 11th December 2010

Time: 10.00am

Meeting Point: Main Car Park at Dalby Forest

Ride Duration: 2.5 - 3 hours.

Bailout Options: Heaps of fire trails returning directly to the car park ;)

This ride will suit Easy riders, K riders, Inter-mediates, Inter-lopers, H riders, Sunday riders, joy riders, horse riders, Flo Ridas and Tinchy Stryders. It would also be great if any nice MTB-ers joined us too so that we can extract some ‘free tips’! :)

It’s a great time to dip your toe in the mud before your formal 2011 training objectives really kick in. It will also tick the ‘cross-training’ box for the keen followers of Winter training programmes. Oh, and don’t worry about quality of equipment, I’ll be turning up in hiking boots and my son’s Halford’s special. So if you’re interested in joining us, please feel free to post an “I’m in!” below. It will be great fun for people of all abilities, shapes and bum sizes. I for one can’t wait!

:)

Red Route? Isn't that the hardest...will you laugh if I get off and walk the tricky bits? I guess I'm in.

Don't worry Red Route is very rideable so don't let this put you off!

There are some technical sections but nothing too difficult and you usually have the option of a softer by-pass option.

No laughing if you walk honest

Blast! I'm double booked. The rule implemented by my good lady is what's on the calendar first, goes (this of course is very unfair as she's organised, months in advance). I thought I was surefire on this ride though as it's almost a month away. Just get it marked on the calendar...... and guess what - Bishopthorpe Panto (no I'm not starring in it as one of the ugly sisters - just going to it with the family).

So I'm not in.

Just bumping this back to the top. Is the ride going to go ahead or is it still too early to say. The weather is looking like it could be warmer by the weekend but don't know if Dalby is/will be open. Also not sure what the access roads are like. Will take the wifes small front wheel drive car rather than my rear drive car to be on the safe side! Getting bored of doing unintentional donuts and getting stuck!

Should have checked the Dalby Forest website first but "Due to heavy snow and ice Dalby Forest is completely closed"

Don't know if this will change before the weekend but if not is there any back up plans for more local tracks etc?

Thanks for the update Dan, this actually makes me feel better about not missing out! I don’t know whether it’s the British weather or the British cricketers but something is driving a bit of a lean spell for me lately. After just getting over a heavy dose of flu the previous week, I then found myself in an emergency surgery situation this week. I’m currently dining out on 3 meals a day of antibiotics and am in no state at all to ride around the block let alone a tough mtb route. I’m very keen to get out there on an mtb soon but there is no way it’s going to be this week. Will try again in the new year! In the meantime, I’ll leave it to you as to whether you wish to persist with a local plan.

Hi Guys

Dalby is still officially closed; despite the thaw that is apparently coming today/tomorrow I wouldn't imagine that the proper routes will be re-opened fully.
There is some fun to be had riding in the snow, but if this is supposed to be a social/newbie (MTB) ride I wouldn't recommend Dalby as your location at the mo.
