York Festival of Cycling - 11th-12th Sept
Have just picked up a message on my answerphone from GetCycling asking what involvement Clifton would like to have at the Festival of Cycling this year. Last year, some of you will recall, we had a stand in Rowntree Park, and generally had a pretty good time talking to people, watching the amazing MTB stunt crew and marvelling at Willy, Stacey and others riding the rollers.
This year's event is slap bang in the middle of a work-related course for me, so someone else will need to take a lead on it if we're going to be there. Anyone up for it? Last year about ten people helped out at various stages over the weekend - do we have a few people who can put in a couple of hours? Responses on here please, so I can ring 'em back!
I reckon a club with 275 members probably should be able to get out there and drum up a bit of enthusiasm for cycling... ...yes?

Many thanks for the offers of help, chaps. It really needs someone to take a lead on it, decide what you want to get together for the stall - last year we had some flyers, a big OS map of the area for discussing ride routes (I think I've still got this), Willy and Stacey brought bike and rollers, we hung up a few bits of club kit, and put up the sail banner and the big Clifton banners. Other stuff was discussed but never happened (such as a turbo sprint challenge) but might be fun to do this year. And just keep in touch with the council and GetCycling, rally extra helpers/talkers for the weekend etc.
Someone?

Okay... ...218 viewings over almost a week and we've got a few offers of help but no-one's sticking their hand up to take a lead and deal with organising our presence there, despite my (presumably unpersuasive) assurances that it's no really big deal... ...any takers, or shall I get back to GetCycling to say we don't want a stall at the Festival of Cycling?
Offers of help appreciated folks, but with less than three weeks until the event and no-one wanting to organise, I've told GetCycling we'll give it a miss. If you're in the area it's worth a visit anyway - the stunt team will be the same lot (The Clan) who had everyone oooo-ing and ahhhh-ing last year!
Okay, we now don't have a stall there, but I've had a request from GetCycling for ride leaders for the event:-
"There will be 3 guided rides on each day and they are based on the leisure rides watercolour map series, and are all approximately an hour long, starting from Rowntree’s Park. Would it be possible for you to pass on any names and contact details for people that were interested in being involved from Clifton as I will be organising these (along with support from a couple of ride leaders from the council) and it would be a great opportunity for your club to be involved."
If you're able to help with one of these, please can you contact Bonnie Adair at Bonnie.Adair@getcycling.org.uk
Thanks folks!
