velo 29 are running a series of 5 races at Croft starting tommorow.
"Velo29 Cycling Team is proud to announce its first ever summer racing series incorporating The Martyn Dobson Memorial Trophy. There are 6 races to be held on the established venue at Croft Motor Racing Circuit near Darlington. The series will start on Thursday 29th July and then take place every Tuesday thereafter for a further 5 weeks (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st of August). The series will retain the successful and every popular handicapping format of the existing Croft races. The series is in memory of Martyn Dobson who sadly passed away in December of 2008. Martyn was an exceptional rider and close friend to many cyclists in the North East and who was also a winner of events on the Croft circuit. We have put together an exciting prize list including regular primes, podium presentation and flower girls. There will also be the usual tasty cakes and a fun atmosphere. These events promise good racing with all the local talent and some national names already entered. To be run under British Cycling Federation rules with an entry fee of £3 per event for youths and £9 for all others. Entries are open now for all categories"
I have contacted the organisers - who are happy to take entries on the line - "We are trying to keep the format as close to the TLI races as possible. There will be 4 groups, as per the TLI so you should find your group has similar riders in it. We are trying to make the races fun, so there be a quick prize presentation after each event.Entry on the line will be fine, any interest you can generate will be much appreciated."
After the weekend's events seemed to have captured an interest in racing - this is a good place to have a try. I am planning on riding tommorow evening and could probably fit another bike in my car if anyone wants a go and needs a lift.
