Inspiration?

Post by Rob »

In the depths of winter maybe we all need a bit. Anyway, am teaching Y11 Sports Science this term and have been looking for some short inspirational clips to show the kids. Thoroughly enjoyed finding the links below and thought I'd share them on here. Can anybody find any more? I'd like to get some of these with the Radio commentary which is always more emotive.

The Athens Olympic kilo final and Hoy's win - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk_tA2cH ... playnext=1 - it's a ten-minute clip but cracking stuff!

Thanks for those they were just what i needed to lift the spirits having picked up a chest infection over the festivities so am off the bike at the moment. They definitely provide a feel good factor. But im with 'Rob radio commentary does provide 'something extra' that is lacking on tv. There is a vote on radio 5 tommorrow for the greatest sporting acheivement of the decade. The 4 finalista are all from those clips. Steve 5th gold, Federer;s 15 grand slams, England winning the World cup and Lance's 7 Tour victories and listening to the radio commentary still gives you goose bumps.

There you go a couple of completely unrelated clips.
However if Kevin saw these he would come out with some "Scullisms" like "wringing yourself out" and "the race isn't over till you cross the line"
I'm not one for music vids but the first is a decent song and a superb study in facial expressions - its better than Rocky & Ali in the same ring!

The second is Kelly at his best - Milan San Remo in 92 his last big victory - He must have risked his life to ride away from the chasers decending the Poggio. A memorable crash aswell thrown in - I particularly like the injured Motorola rider being dragged out of the way at the end. well we should have one cycling related clip. Enjoy!

Thanks for those Guys. Love the Gabrielle one - can ask them what happened at the end? Good discussion. I enjoyed the cycling ones (the Kelly one takes me back...) - the context is a tough one to get across to the kids though.

Heard Redgrave won the R5 poll - reckon it would have been close between him and Armstrong.

One more. Not sure if this is sport (well, almost as much as F1 I suppose), but its still a buzz...

Have been sent this one also. This is priceless Roy of the Rovers stuff. How to be a hero. End result was of course that Scarboro went out of the league instead, and a few years later out of existance.

Am struggling for cycling clips that non-cyclists can relate to, any help much appreciated.
