Easy Rides

Post by rook3896 »

Hi,
I have read most of your site and am interested in riding as part of a club but I have never ridden more than 25 miles. I am 50 and have only done about 20 rides this year since I bought a decent bike. Your social rides sound Ok but the distance, 40 to 50 miles,is frightening. Any suggestions.

Welcome Paul.

The key thing I found when I took up cycling - just over 2 years ago now - was to just get out there and ride! As long as you are enjoying yourself it becomes rather addictive. The more you do the better you'll get. If you can get out at the weekend and fit in a shorter ride during the week on top - even just 10 miles or so, you'll soon find that your speed and distance will grow like Topsy.

Many people have started out with Kevin on a Saturday morning - you couldn't have a better introduction to group/social riding!

Think of the social rides as being two rides of 25 miles - which you've done before - with a nice relaxed cafe stop inbetween. Plus you're riding in a group so you're sheltered (it really is much easier than riding solo) and you'll be talking non-stop so you'll not notice the distance anyway. Get out there!
