Picked this up on info mailing list. Sounds interesting. Can anyone help?I am doing some research on the history of women's cycling. I came across a reference to Lady Dorothea Gibb, who claimed she was the fourth woman in York to ride a safety bicycle and was stoned by locals who disapproved. I have no date for this incident, although it's likely to be mid 1890s or possibly a bit earlier ?
As you were formed over 100 years ago, I was wondering about the extent of your archives and whether you could throw any light on the very early years of women cycling in York.
