The Come & Try It needs YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUU!

Post by PhilBixby »

The Come and Try It TT event is now just two weeks away and Nick, who has done all the organisation for it - needs people to put their hands up to help. It would be really nice if he didn't have to put in yet more time chasing people to volunteer.

Helping out at club events is fun. You get to meet new people who share your enthusiasm for cycling, you get to meet all sorts of interesting characters and it doesn't even have to interfere in your plans for a ride - pedal out there and then you can do a group ride from the event afterwards!

I know that for many of you, you joined Clifton in order to ride, not do club stuff. But the more members we have, the greater variety of rides there are, and if it wasn't for events like the Come and Try It, half of you wouldn't have heard of the club. Put a couple of hours back in, go on. It'll be a good do. There'll even be cake!***

If you can come along, please post on here or email Nick direct.
See you there?

*** Guess what? We need cake-bakers too!

I might be able to help out, since my mum wants to ride this and maybe my sister too :) will there be a ride afterwards again like last year, or at least a spontaneous ride?

Gill:- Cakes sounds excellent, yes please. I'll talk Caroline into doing a slab of brownies and (time permitting) I'll make a couple of the notorious potato and mars bar cakes. Anyone else with culinary skills?

Arthur - I'm sure a ride can be arranged - why not kick off a thread to organise it?

Okay, who else is going to be there to help eat the cakes?

I am hoping to ride the TT, but will bring a box of my girlfriends flapjacks with me for the cake table.

If there is any last min positions that need filling I should be able to help, I cant say I could do anything until then as I don't know what I'll be doing, I'm hoping I've got a job by then.

If you are in need then I will volunteer. Though I am hoping to do the ride with my wife Rachel and all the three girls.

It's great to see the familiar faces, plus a couple of newcomers, offering help. Now... we've had over 80 new members so far this year. C'mon folks... ...how about a few of you seeing what it's like on the other side of the signing-in desk or the marshalling flag!?!

Flapjacks...carrot cake...banana cake...brownies... ...what does it take?

Thanks everyone. I've been offline for a few days and missed all of this.

I'll be getting it all together tomorrow evening and confirming details with everyone who has volunteered so far. In the meantime, please keep the offers coming.

If you want to pm me then just use cati@cliftoncc.org

Thanks

I can't guarantee to be there, but if I can make it I'll fit in wherever you need me.

Hi Team

Thank you all for offering to help. I have tried to reply my email and pm to everyone, but not sure if that worked, so here is a summary of what I have asked everyone to do

Willy and Andy Stanforth - 1 to be in chrage of signing on and one to assist (you'll have to fight for the honour).
Kevin - Start timekeeper
Dave I'Anson - Pushing off
Ian Hagyard, Dave Cook and Arthur Marshal - to prep course and marshal
Steve Savage - Finish timekeeper
Andy Johnston - Timekeeper's assistant
Andy Stanforth - Results board steward
Phil Sud, Mal, the Ellwoods - to be all furry and fluffy with the newbies, then twist their arms to make them join, maybe cover results runner if needed
Gill - some food!

Help is still needed for the refreshments, plus one or two reserves on the day would make me feel more comfortable.

Thanks
Nick
