I was Mr Clifton Billy-No-Mates down at Minty's old blokes race on Sunday - the sun was out(-ish), the birds were tweeting and the normally unspectacular South Yorkshire landscape looked, well, green and not bad at all. I had a pre-race chat with Donny Wheelers' Fred Easton. "What's yer tactics today then, Fred?" "I'm goin' from t'f****n' gun, Phil".

He did too, and unfortunately about six blokes more awake than me got on his wheel and by about 400yds into the race they were disappearing down the road, and half the remaining bunch were shrugging their shoulders saying "Sorry, I've got a mate in the break...". About half a dozen of us started working to try to at least keep them in sight, and this carried on until a bit over half race distance. Then to add insult, a fair chunk of the fresh-legged lads attacked and got a gap. One other lad and I did a two-up through to the finish, where we had a joint grumble about it all. Moral:- Next time, do them before they do you.

But, on a more positive note, I now have tanlines! :D
