Hello there,

My name is Liz and I work for Action For Kids. We are a national children’s charity based in London working to create independence, provide opportunities and offer support to disabled young people and their families. We raise money for mobility aid such as trikes and wheelchairs and operate a national helpline for the parents and carers of disabled children and young people, offering practical and emotional support when they need it most. The work that we do has a direct impact on disabled children and young people in local communities across the UK.

I would like to invite you and the members of your cycling club to take part in the Action For Kids London to Paris Cycle Challenge, one of the greatest cycling experiences in Europe. It is an adventure that you will never forget and by taking part, you will be helping to raise vital funds for disabled children. It is a fantastic group challenge and will provide a great goal for training and practise in your cycling club. You will get to experience the trip of a lifetime with passion for the sport, great team spirit and above all the knowledge that you will be transforming the lives of disabled children and young people.

Date:

The date for the challenge is 18th-22nd June 2008. However, if you feel like you are ready to take part this year, there are still some spaces left on the 29th August-2nd September 2007 trip.

Itinerary:

On this 5 day challenge, you will pass through picturesque countryside of southern England before you cross the Channel and continue through small villages and medieval market towns in Northern France, passing the famous battlefields of the Somme and Agincourt. There are long days on the bike and some strenuous hill-climbs but the sight of the Eiffel Tower marking the finish of the challenge will make it all worth while! You will then be able to sit back and relax and soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere with a day to explore Paris and all it has to offer.

Itinerary breakdown:
DAY 1: Cycle from London through Kent and North Downs to Dover; ferry to Calais
DAY 2: Quiet winding roads and old market towns to Abbeville
DAY 3: Follow River Somme and mainly flat tree-lined roads to Beauvais
DAY 4: Rural countryside and villages to outskirts of Paris; finish under Eiffel Tower
DAY 5: Free in Paris; return by Eurostar to London

Financial Info:

There are two different options regarding the cost of the trip. One is the fundraising option and the other is the payment option, both are explained below:

1. Fundraising Option

There is a minimum fundraising target per person of £1,200. This includes the total cost of the trip so there will be no additional cost to the individual. At least 60% of this total goes directly to Action For Kids which will go a long way in helping us continue our work. The obvious bonus of this option is that you do not incur any cost yourself. Everything is paid for through your fundraising. This is a great option if you entering the challenge as a group, you will be able to tackle your fundraising much more easily as you will be able to fundraise as a group and organise joint fundraising events and approach local businesses such as shops, pubs and companies for help to reach your target!

You will have plenty of time to fundraise and we will help you every step of the way will fundraising packs, sponsorship forms, advice, support and merchandise and there will always be someone on the other end of the phone to answer any questions you will have.

2. Payment Option

You pay the tour cost of £480 for the trip and there is no minimum fundraising target. You are then asked to fundraise as much as you can for Action For Kids!

Other Information:

Please find attached the 2007 information pack for the challenge detailing all of the typical information that you will require including detailed itinerary, kit list, training guide and fundraising ideas.
