I thought that you might be interested in a play about the history of cycling clubs which is coming to East Cottingwith Village Hall on 28th Sept. (East Cottingwith is 12 miles from York). It is by the hugely talented professional theatre company - Mikron Theatre. The details are as below.
East Cottingwith Village Hall
Tuesday 28th September 7.30pm
Tickets £8 and reductions for children.
Telephone: 01759 318595, 318761 or 318530. You can also pay on the door.
Mikron ( www.mikron.org.uk/ ) are a professional theatre group who tour the country presenting their own plays which are full of music and comedy with a serious theme underneath. They are great fun and we are very lucky that they take the time to come to such a small village.

New for 2010:
Script and lyrics by Richard Povall
Directed by Mike Lucas
Music and Musical Direction by Rebekah Hughes
“freewheeling through cycling history with the wind at its back”
Remember the Choppers, the Chippers, the Grifters, the Racers…?
This pacy, poignant production celebrates cycling and its unusual partnership with socialism.
Mikron’s talented team of four freewheelers, pedals its way through 100 years of history, charting the amazing story of the socialist cyclists of the National Clarion Cycling Club and the last day of business in a 21st century Manchester cycle shop.
These two tales are interwoven with laughter, tomfoolery, rousing songs and sheer Pedal Power.
“Say no man lives until he has been on tour with the Clarion C.C ‘Till then he but exists! “
Tom Groom, co-founder of the Clarion Cycling Club
"The skill, ingenuity and vitality of the troupe is out of all proportion to the modesty of the settings in which they appear and their combined ability to create effective entertainment and instruction from minimal resources and basic techniques" The Guardian
