Hornsea Mere, Challenge Ride:
"Once again we found a great ride, where non existed before". Steen Berg
Yep, agree with that. 4 of us this week with Ginnie joining the regulars of Andy, Steen and I. Initially pushed eastwards at quite a pace by the tail wind, up Millington Pastures, Tibthorpe and Hutton Cranswick. We usually make our breakout from East Yorkshire to Very East Yorkshire via a dirt track at Rotsea. This gets us over a little bridge across the river Hull, saving quite a few km. The farmer though had other plans, deciding there was really no right of way and building a Trumpesque gate, with spikey things and password access. Big shame this as it led to a big retrace and detour. Still, we found our way via Skerne and many more cracking lanes to Hornsea with 90k on the clock.

Gem of a cafe on the mere, then back across country to Beverley. The main roads were busy with coast traffic, and required some extended games of Frogger to cross (Millenials will know it "Crossy Road"). Then across the Westwood, Walkington, Newbold, and a second cafe at Gilberdyke. The headwind was picking up through Eastrington, Howdon and onto Barmby on the Marsh. Sustrans path to Hemmingbrough, then, at last North, out of the headwind to Skipwith. Fantatstic ride on the track across the common with the afternoon sun slanting through the tree canopy, then Riccall and home through Naburn.

213k at about 27kph. Thanks to Ginnie for taking some big turns, particularly towards the end, and to all for their company.
