Thursday evening sees the inaugural running of one of our SPOCO series events on the Wheldrake T.T. Circuit.
In another first, this round is being run in partnership with York Cycleworks and Andy Fraser, one of the directors and a well-known face to most on here, agreed to act as organiser and has done a fantastic job in liaising with us and recruiting sufficient volunteers to cover the event.
As ever, David Short was meticulous with the early planning and paperwork required to make this event happen and has recced’ the route with Andy. We will be using Cycleworks signage and Bernard Turgoose will be acting as one of the TimeKeepers.
The course starts adjacent to the small industrial estate to the West of Wheldrake, near the junction with Wheldrake lane which goes toward Escrick. There is ample parking space on the industrial estate. There is no need to park in the village.
The finish is 10 miles later, at a point approx. 1 mile East of Wheldrake village. It is at the end of a straight with good sight lines for timekeepers and a good stretch of road before the village for competitors to warm down and go back to the start.
From feedback, it is likely that this event will be very well attended. It is a very fast, pan-flat course with only 2 left turns at road junctions. We have even had enquiries from visitors to York who have picked up on the event from the Cycleworks Facebook page.
Club policy is that we can accept entries from non-Clifton C.C. members as "guests of the club" so long as they are a member of a recognised cycling club. Any such entrants will have to wait until all Cliftonites, York Cycleworks and Malton Wheelers riders have signed on. If there are places left, in the 40 competitor maximum we are allowed, then they should be invited to ride.
Sign-on will be from 7pm. with the first rider off at 7:30pm.
This event holds exciting prospects for the Club - a new course, a new venture with a partner club and we hope to see lots of riders in attendance.
