It's the end of cycling as we know it.

Sounds melodramatic? You can't have missed the first case of mechanical doping. You can already buy an electric motor which gives 200 watts (check GCN) for £2500 which no-one would know you had in your bike - so how would you know if your mate was using one, who on a club run had one, who on a cyclosportive, Audax, amateur race or time trial. Any timed event is dead.

Chemical doping, as in EPO, appears to be prevalent in the amateur ranks as recent revelations in the Time Trial world show. A simple trawl on the interweb and you can buy EPO mail order, purporting to be an aid for kidney and other such health issues. Needless to say there will be those who abuse and delude themselves. I'll stick to Yorkshire tea, cake, and pies good old beetroot as fuel of choice and wobbly legs and wheezing lungs for forward motion!

Cheers David

Im not so sure, its another scandal, yes, but the end of cycling as we know it? No.

It easier to test for and spot than chemical doping so on that basis it is an additional consideration nothing more.

Chemical doping in amateur cycling is worse than I thought but it is harder than you might think to stay "clean", I have not been great a checking all the things I consume / take to make sure they are not on the WADA list, although that has changed as I dont want to be caught out as ignorance is not excuse.

There will always be cheats, I dont know what they get out of it, the sense of satisfaction and achievement must be diminished if you cheat, I work blooming hard and am pleased when I get a good result, but I am annoyed when I find one of the people that beat me has been found with PEDs in his system, that takes something away from me (and not just the money I would have got).

Either way it happens and I doubt it will ever change,

Cheers
