And now for something completely different...

As part of the ‘Cycle and Sing’ Climate Change event on Saturday 28th November, York Bike Belles will be running a family bike ride, ‘Pedal to the Earth’.

We will meet outside the west entrance of the Minster at 11am. We'll head towards Bishopthorpe Road (which may involve walking certain sections with our bikes, depending on how busy the roads are and level of confidence of riders). We’ll take the NCN towards Naburn and cycle up to Earth on the Solar System Greenway. We envisage this will take around one hour to get to this point.

After taking photos we’ll cycle back via Brunswick Nurseries, where we’ll stop for around 30 minutes to get tea and cake, or have a quick look around the Brunswick Christmas Fair which will be on that day. We will then head back into the city centre finishing the ride at North Street gardens (ETA 2:15PM) where the singing will commence at 2.30pm.

This leisurely paced ride will be ideal for families with children who can ride a bike competently or where the adult has suitable equipment to carry a child on their bike. This ride will also appeal to anyone who wants to get out in the fresh air, meet new people, be active and get involved in community activities.

This bike ride is a great way to show support for more environmentally friendly ways of travelling around the city, which is highly relevant to the pertinent topics of climate change and well-being.

You've got to admit it makes a change from the usual Saturday rides - at least in part on account of the opportunity for singing - and if you want to help raise awareness of the upcoming Paris climate talks then it's a good way to do it! All that, and cake! :D

(I should point out that although York Bike Belles are fronting it up, blokes are welcome too).
