Hi All,

Just an update on my fundraising efforts whilst I have a chance to catch my breath.

For those of you (who still...) don't know, I am riding Stage 1 of the Tour de France, with 14 other riders, only hours ahead of the professional riders. Closed roads, motorcycle escort, support vehicles, the lot. Marie Curie are the official charity of the Tour de France and have organised this unique ride. I've pledged to raise £19,000 which will cover the costs for a Marie Curie nurse in York for a year.

After organising numerous events I am now on £15,500 with other pledges still to come in. For the very latest total please go to www.justgiving.com/mjdhughes

My training is in full flow and so no events this weekend. Next weekend is madness however. Friday 20th Liverpool fundraiser, Sat & Sunday Tour de Brass in York then I ride up to Ripon, Sunday I am then presenting the baton to the Black Dyke Brass band. Cycling on stage at the Barbican. I am also starting one of their pieces of music off.

The last big fundraiser is at Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton on Friday 4th July. This is going to be a superb event and I will be looking to hit the £19,000. If you fancy coming along tickets are £20 and this will cover a hog roast and £20 'funny money' to play the Casino to win a magnificent money can't buy prize. I have a band from London who have just finished an album of music dedicated to cycling. 'Me for Queen' They are very groovy and will also be playing up at Masham on the day of Tour (5th July).

Thanks to all those Cliftonites who have supported me. If you are going to watch Stage 1 please shriek, shout and yell when I pass and wear your Clifton tops so that I can see you. The 15 riders in the Marie Curie Power Peloton have to stay a minimum of 3 hours ahead of the professionals. If it drops there will be no questions, just get into the van. This is a tough ride at a tough pace. If it wasn't difficult it wouldn't be a challenge though.

Vive Le Tour!
