Many of you will know that I am riding in the Marie Curie Power Peloton on stage 1 of the Tour de France. Same day as the pros, 5th July 2014
It looks like the final numbers will be 15 riders in the peloton. Riders are coming from all over the world to take part. I am coming from York! I've pledged to raise £19,000 for Marie Curie, which will pay for a nurse in York for a year. All the money will stay local. I've raised £5,500 in just over 12 weeks but the events that will bring in the big bucks start this weekend. If you can take part or come along to any of the events please do. Failing that please either donate at www.justgiving.com/mjdhughes or wear your Clifton CC top top along the route of Stage 1 on the day and your support will get me around somehow.
Friday 30th May: ‘Dress Yellow or French’ Street collection and York businesses, Council & Fire Service involved
Saturday 31st May: LovetoEat, Moor Lane fundraiser
Saturday 31st May: Fete du Tour York Pub Trail 12n to 3pm (Starts at ‘Your Bike Shed’ Micklegate)
Saturday 31st May: Fete du Tour BBQ, Forest Farm BBQ Selby Road York YO19 4RE4pm to 7pm £15 for all the food you can eat. This is going to be something special. Under 16's eat free too. Come along after your Saturday ride.....in fact ride there!
Thursday 5th June: Marie Curie Power Peloton First Thursday Fundraiser Hotel Du Vin 5.30pm to 8pm £10 Food, free Velo beer (Black Sheep official beer of the Tour which is supporting me), Brass band and lots more.
Friday 6th June: ‘Your Bike Shed’ Tour de France Quiz £40 per team of 4 (£10 each includes Pie & Pea supper) Promises to have some 'money can't buy' prizes from Le Coq Sportif....Velo Beer will be here too!
Friday 20th June: Liverpool Fundraiser, Casa Liverpool (The chance for York folk to experience a quite crazy night in Liverpool in aid of Marie Curie. Not to be missed!)
Saturday 21st June: York, Ripon, Leyburn & Mucker ‘Tour de Brass’ baton presentation
Sunday 22nd June: LovetoEat Tour de Summer Fair A day for all the family Moor Lane
Sunday 22nd June: The highlight of ‘Tour de Brass’ with the presentation of the conductors baton to the Black Dyke Band at the Barbican York. I will be cycling onto the stage with the baton and reliving my youth in playing with this world famous brass combo!
Friday 4th July: Fundraiser Ye Old Sun Inn Colton. The night before the off! Can we get the fundraising to the magical £19,000 on the night. Casino, food, Black Sheep Velo and much more.
Sunday 6th July: Party at Giant York Lord Mayors Walk. Giant York have kindly sponsored my ride by supplying me with a Giant Defy Advanced 2 to ride the Power Peloton and a Defy 5 to raffle to raise funds. Tickets for the raffle are £2 each and can be bought at the shop or through myself. The party on 6th will allow 100 people to watch the Tour work its way down to Sheffield in store on big screens after it has left York. After the finish will be the draw for the bike.
