Re: Training ride, Saturday 4th

Sorry for the thread hijack but i'm thinking of doing the women's race at Walkington and it'd be really helpful to know the route beforehand. Does anyone have a link/description of the course please?

Hmm...I think i may need to be quite a bit fitter before attempting the training ride again. Although i was surprised to see the group (2nd group) so strung out by bishopwood, and then it wasn't just me sitting out turns on the front.

Was it just my abismal fitness  or was that ride a bit ...

Does anyone have a rough rolling speed (for the flat bits) and a rough overall average on this lumpy route for the quicker group? Just trying to work out which group i should go with? Although i suppose i could always set off with the first group and fall back into the second if i run out of steam.

Hi Stewy,

There will almost cetainly be a 'K' ride tomorrow. Even if the weather is bad there's always a few folk out. Just get yourself to the Square just before 10am and make sure you set off with the 'K' group and not the 'A' ride. Both groups set off at similar times but they usually announce ...

That's our neck of the woods so we might try to meet you all at Tadcaster and ride with you until Cawood.
They've resurfaced the road from Cawood to Stillingfleet with that horrible gravel. That was a few weeks ago, so hopefully the worst of the loose chippings have gone.
Can anyone give us an idea ...

Damn it! I'm on nights this weekend so won't be able to make it. I am keen to join this steadier group now that the 9am ride is too quick for me. And next Saturday i'm at a wedding
I will get out and support this ride sonner or later - not sure i've got the experience or judgement of pace to ...

Well after posting that i'd welcome the return of the 08:50 on Saturday, sadly i can't make the 9th March. I appreciate how important it is to come and support this ride so i'm a bit annoyed that i won't be able too next week...typical.

Anyway, I'll keep my eyes open for future 08:50 rides ...

Thank you to Andy and Michelle for organising this. The coaching was good fun and informative.

The race was harder than i expected it to be. I think the smaller numbers (compared with my last race with 90+ people) and the presence of some strong and experienced ladies made it a tough 45 minutes for ...

I've been struggling to stay with the pace of the training since mid January, i'm just about ok to the 2hr mark then the wheels come off. Yet in my first race with 90+ men and about 10 ladies, i didn't get a nasty shock. In fact it was quite the opposite, I was pleasantly surprised that i managed to ...

The 08:50 steady 3hr ride seemed to die a death after 2 or 3 weeks, shame as it seemed to be popular.
If its race training you're after, then the 3hr training ride that Phil mentioned serves that purpose. The pace is steady'ish from Sept to Jan but it has got pretty feisty now!

I go out and see how ...

Well that was hard work but very enjoyable. I spied a few speedy lads in the second group so i knew i was in for a real kicking....but all good training.

We started to split on the the climb to Thorner (expected really) but a big effort by Andy and Greg helped us to get back on to the front group ...

Had a great time today. Managed to stay out of trouble and hang onto the pack....all the way to the finish :D
Very surprised how steady everyone was around the corners, i thought i'd get dropped there. All that time spent on motorbikes hooning around tracks must have helped 8)
