Hi Folks

Originally signed up the forum in 2011 but then went quiet, mainly due to work and other commitments.

Now i find myself with a new bike and a bit more time on my hands.

Do the Wednesday evening rides still happen?

Finally

Hi folks

I finally got out today for a nice easy going 10.5 miler through and around York.
Not a bad route, mainly hardcore roads and cycle paths, but then hit the river from Bishopthorpe and found lots of mud.

Really enjoyed it and it'll keep me happy until i get out again.

Anyone got any other ...

Glad to hear you're fine :D

The only thing i can suggest apart from what i said above is to bring your legs up as quick as you can on the side you're falling. SO if going down on the right, bring up the right leg, and vice versa with the left side.
This will stop you scraping, grinding that leg ...

Sorry to hear of your fall and good to know you're ok.
Falling properly is usually taught in martial arts but thats only for being thrown and learning to twist your body to lessen the impact.
Falling off a bike though is a different kettle of fish. If you're quick enough you could pull your legs up ...

It'll just be for my MTB, i'm used to looking after basic bikes, but the new MTB's are a whole new world to me.

York Routes

Another newbie question.

Does anyone have the routes previously used around York? I've had an idea about doing something and was wondering if someone has them bookmarked or able to email them to myself?

It's the thought that counts Mr Marmite

Thats my usual way fo doing things, but i'd rather use a manual on a new bike, my first mtb for over a decade than hit it with a hammer till it works. Or give it to the REME guys to play with :?

MTB/Bike Manuals

Possibly a long shot, but i'm considering doing my own maintenance on my Trek once the free services are done by York Cycleworks.
I've been recommended one or two books, but what's the general conscensus on which bike manual?

Cheers

Ah right, thanking you muchly :D

Only just started out MTBing again so don't know the routes around York enough to start a ride. Plus i'm very much "ad hoc" myself as alot things can crop up unexpectedly with my job.
