Re: Clifton Road Race day on Sunday 12 June

Hi Cam - I'm in for helping with the BC race - ideally not as a driver, but whatever helps. Cheers, tom

Tan hill - tailwind - misjudged corner - over bars - soft peat - sounds all too familiar. Ian, sounds like you hit it a bit harder than I did 2 years ago; but glad to hear you're still up and typing even if you're stuck in hospital for now. All the best for a speedy recovery!
cheers

The old bike helmet thing...

A risk prof and the "Bad Scientist" explain why evidence is unlikely to settle the bike helmet debate.

Gws Richard - sounds like a bit of a rollercoaster week!
Another vote for hydrocolloids, Granuflex secured by mefix/hypafix is a wonderful thing. Order by the yard from your local pharmacy.
Swift recovery,

rode it last year, top event, really enjoyed it.
missed the entry deadline this year, must have been asleep in february - wanted to try it with gears this time so was gutted.
then saw the weather...
well done all who turned out to ride or marshall - see you next year I hope :)

Pudding run was a top ride, thanks to Rob for leading and advising on gears (gear?). And to Richard for towing us most of the way home!
Weather today looks good, hoping the Tan Hill mob are enjoying sunshine over Reeth. Family visit weekend or I'd be very tempted...

I'm committed - barring bizarre incident between now and nine. The gearing is a teeny bit over 68, and could be a little bit more if I can be bothered to swap in a 28mm marathon this evening... sounds like a good December challenge anyway!

Odd - been a Schwalbe man since I was knee-high to a giraffe, but just this autumn I picked up some cheap Rubino II (semi-slick) 25mm for my fixed bike. Since weather turned cold and damp, my back wheel has been sliding all over on corners; I'm glad I've still got a Schwalbe Lugano on the front ...

Neither. Train as you are, just eat a bit less. Try especially to cut down on sugary foods that leave you feeling hungry soon after. Simples. :)

Not so fast?

An interesting "total cost of ownership" approach to vehicle speed...

Another thankyou to Claire and the team for organising an excellent hillclimb. The weather was of course fantastic (if a bit chilly for labouring lungs). 2008 was the first (only other) time I rode this one and looking back at the results I can see not much has changed - I was three seconds quicker ...
