I know I may be funny that way, but I've found I enjoy scenery much better sharing roads with cyclists, than with cars. Especially that would be on touristy days, say coming down from the Col de Bales with nowt between you and the road edge and then onwards to the bottom of the valley.
Same goes for ...

Well, I seem to have started something mentioning the extravaganza of an Etape booking!

We'll all agree that this is no ordinary ride.
-You ride under race conditions the classic Tour routes, covered a few days later by the real boys.
-You don't need a Michelin map, as the sign posting is superb ...

2009 Etape du Tour: places on offer

Today I have signed up again for a place on the 2009 with Ron Cutler, now for the 6th time. He offers individual entries, and has a range of further training ride options, which I do not use. These include pre-etape exploratory rides on the course.
The standard cost for a place is about £100

There ...

EasyWeekendRiders had their first Saturday ride, leaving York at 1.30 from Exhibition Square, and headed east out to the Wolds as far as Bishop Wilton, yes, where the Clifton hill climb will be enacted in a few weeks time. (And I can tell you by observation that there's some preparation effort going ...

In case you have not had the pleasure yet, and are at a loss what to do for your next holiday I can recommend 'De Ronde van Nederland', or tour of Holland. No mountains, which is actually very acceptable for a change, and always plenty of cycling company in all categories.

I covered the whole ...

Just back from Holland: they call motor bikes 'donor bikes' there.

Any idea why?

Also, something speed freaks never realise is that they bear down that much faster on other road users, who don't expect vehicles to appear at more than legal speeds, goes for town too!

FunRiders launched!

On Satuday FunRiders had their first taste of fun riding!

A group of 8 children and their minders set off for an afternoon of two-wheeled exitements which included a treasure hunt, making the (probably) world's first and largest hairy bike, getting to grips with riding bike slaloms and...ooh ...

Nearest pickup point is Bramhall near Leeds.

True English summer weather has arrived and we're all feeling better for it, so I thought to see what interest there is in running a Fun Ride this Saturday August 16th. By then we should all be acclimatised to constant rain!
Probably a 2pm start for accompanied kids age 10-ish upwards, 3 to 4 hours ...
